The Senior Credit Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting, reviewing and negotiating loan requests to help the bank build, maintain, and accurately risk grade a high performing private credit, commercial and leveraged loan portfolio. This role will involve working closely with external banking partners, portfolio managers, legal, credit administration, and bank leadership.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop policies, procedures, templates, and other critical structures to establish a quality credit portfolio
- Work with third-party partners to identify prospective syndicated and leverage loans within the parameters of the Bank's risk appetite
- Lead the due diligence and underwriting process of new loan opportunities and perform periodic reviews on existing loans
- Make, recommend, and present credit decisions to credit administration and the credit committee through both effective written and verbal communication
- Assess and recommend risk ratings for underwritten loans
- Create credit underwriting memos which analyze the credit request, the borrower, financial and credit information, repayment sources, risks and mitigation, collateral, and compliance with applicable regulations and policies
- Create and analyze enterprise valuation models, including but not limited to, discount cash flow models and comparable market approach valuations
- Maintain expert level knowledge of Bank policies, guidelines, procedures, regulations and systems applicable to the credit function
- Ensure that loan files and documentation are complete and accurate on an ongoing basis
- Assist with portfolio management and monitoring duties
- Ensure accuracy of internal reports and systems related to the portfolio
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners
- Assist in training, mentoring, and developing junior credit team members
- Assistance with strategic initiatives and projects
- Travel to lender meetings as needed

Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience analyzing and spreading business financial statements associated with commercial and corporate loan transactions
- 5+ years of experience underwriting and structuring commercial, corporate, syndicated and or leveraged loan transactions
- 5+ years of experience working in a commercial credit or lending role with a commercial bank, private equity firm, or investment bank
- Experience making or recommending credit decisions on transactions > $10 million
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of a formal commercial credit training program
- Professional certification (CFA, CAIA, etc.)
- 3+ years of experience underwriting fund and sponsor loan transactions
- Experience with special assets and workout loans
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
