As an Associate Director of Regulatory Affairs, you will serve as a leader on a team of regulatory professionals who analyze new regulatory requirements, work closely with the business to understand the impact and obligations of those requirements, and support the business in understanding the evolving regulatory landscape.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and communicate complex newly enacted laws, regulations, and regulatory guidelines impacting pharmacy benefits
  • Monitor the organization's implementation of newly enacted laws and regulations to ensure completion
  • Maintain awareness of current and emerging trends/changes in the regulatory environment
  • Cultivate and maintain solid collaborative relationships with ORx business partners and legal and compliance colleagues to maintain ongoing influence on regulatory matters
  • Lead regulatory affairs professionals to best meet the business needs
  • Develop and enhance team processes to ensure efficient and effective regulatory support across the ORx business
  • Regularly provide education and updates on PBM regulatory issues to leadership, other internal teams and external clients

It will be your job to determine how we can provide more value to our business teams and clients in a regulatory space. That requires big picture thinking and a keen, strategic mindset. In the meantime, you will be expected to monitor and drive new regulatory requirements.

Your challenge will be tracking and analyzing all new regulatory requirements. And you will be expected to prepare summaries of analysis that include, as appropriate, relevant legislative history, comparisons to existing or proposed legislation in other jurisdictions and detailed descriptions of the operational requirements and affected departments. You will also be expected to provide training and guidance on regulatory affairs and new regulatory requirements throughout the business, including with leadership across Optum Rx and with client organizations.

You'll need to be rock solid in your role as an expert on regulatory changes and in understanding how these changes will affect the business. A critical part of your role is communicating these changes in a meaningful way that will facilitate a solider front-end compliance consistent with regulations. Fundamentally, you will need to ensure our company focuses on doing things right the first time.

Technical and Functional Skills:

  • Proficiency with verbal and written communication, including effective analysis and communication of regulatory information
  • Proficiency with tools and processes to track new laws and regulations and implementation activity (State Net, LexisNexis, eGRC)

  • Knowledge of health care compliance programs and processes

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a regulatory role within health care, managed care and/or health insurance interpreting proposed or new laws
  • Experience working with health plans / health insurance entities
  • Experience building relationships across business groups internally and outside the organization
  • Experience supervising and leading team members with HR accountabilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in, and understanding of, the pharmacy benefit manager industry
  • Legal education and experience
  • Intermediate experience with legal research applications (such as Lexis)
  • Proven ability to effectively understand and communicate detailed and complex information verbally and written with others
  • Proven solid verbal and written communication skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
