Optum is looking for an experienced, curious, and self-motivated individual to lead a team that will be responsible for the development of new products and services for the organization. Partnering with business stakeholders, data science teams and technology teams, you will build solid relationships with our internal stakeholders, acquiring knowledge of the business and driving strategic platform build.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Drives excellence and standardization across the data science team with a focus on consistency, efficiency, and scalability of AI/ML solutions.
- Take primary ownership of the suite of data science and AI assets built within the team, ensuring proper governance, monitoring, and alignment with departmental standards and organizational, legal, and compliance requirements.
- Take primary ownership of the pipeline of data science solutions assigned to the team - ensuring consistent use of tooling and processes across the team. Identify opportunities to leverage AI/machine learning to improve business outcomes.
- Aligns team skills and capabilities with business priorities to maximize impact.
- Provide strategic and technical direction aligned to analytic efforts around AI/ML.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to help identify opportunities for optimization and strategic growth.
- Complies with and contribute to departmental standards related to data, data governance, project planning, audits, validation, and documentation.
- Promotes experimentation and piloting of new AI solutions to accelerate business transformation.
- Stays current on internal and external technological advances in AI and advanced analytics that can be applied to document processing.
- Ensures the responsible and ethical use of AI by embedding security, compliance, and data governance standards into AI solutions.
- Present AI vision, roadmaps, and results to senior leadership.

Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in AI/ML with demonstrable career progression from individual contributor to technical leadership roles.
- 8+ years solid and current programming skills in Python or other relevant programming languages.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience with machine learning libraries and frameworks.
- 6+ years public cloud experience (Azure, and/or GCP, and/or AWS).
- Extensive experience working within technical and business professionals in a corporate matrix management environment, managing multiple priorities, driving AI strategies and delivering business impact.
- Current and extensive hands-on experience with modern AI tools, frameworks, and methodologies.
- Experience with ethical and regulatory considerations in data science and willingness to apply them in practice.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical results to a diverse audience, with a connection back to the business objectives and outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on technical contribution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Risk adjustment programs.
- Experience managing a team of data scientists.
- Demonstrated exceptional leadership, communication, and executive presence skills.
- Natural curiosity to learn more, dig into details, and understand the key drivers of emerging trends and challenges.
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $132,200 to $226,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
