Registered Nurse, Diagnostic Imaging, Days
We are seeking a Registered Nurse for our Samaritan Healthcare diagnostic imaging team in sunny, Moses Lake, Washington! As an RN you are responsible for a group of imaging patients for a designated time frame implementing the Nursing Process. You work closely with patients, physicians, and other clinicians in order to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes.
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm.
Extra Incentive: Up to $15,000 sign on bonus, subject to two-year Hospital Sign on Advance Agreement. (External candidates only.)
Education & Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Washington
- Previous nursing experience, preferably in an acute care setting with competency in conscious/moderate sedation and patient monitoring and interpretation.
- Strong clinical assessment skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient at IV access.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of diagnostic imaging procedures and patient care in the diagnostic setting preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Educates patients and their families on the nature of the diagnostic imaging procedures, potential risks, and expected outcomes.
- Assesses patients' medical history, vital signs, and specific needs, and communicates effectively to ensure their comfort and well-being throughout the imaging process.
- Facilitates the appropriate scheduling of invasive procedure with the Radiologist and Scheduling staff.
- Ensures that pre-and post-procedure care instructions are communicated, completed and addresses any questions or concerns.
- Attends patient consultations
- Performs follow-up calls
- Collaborates with radiologists, technologists, and other healthcare team members to assist with and support the diagnostic imaging procedures such as: FNA and Biopsies.
- Ensures that all equipment and instruments are properly sterilized, calibrated, and ready for use.
- Starts and/or checks peripheral IVs, assesses Infusaports, administers medications, monitors vital signs, suctions patients, inserts Foleys and helps patients with their personal needs.
- Monitors patients' response to procedures and provides immediate care or intervention in case of any complications.
- Informs the technologist or radiologist of any unusual patient needs, and performs specialized nursing duties, such as administering IV sedation or analgesia during special procedures and may closely monitor patients with cardiac/pulse oximeters.
- Assists MRI Tech by positioning patient breast(s) for imaging
- Orders and administers medications or contrast agents as required and monitor patients for any adverse reactions.
- May acts as a specimen navigator by label printing, scanning wristbands, documentation, properly preparing the specimens and delivering in a timely fashion to the lab.
- May participate in conscious and/or moderate sedation.
- May participate in patient monitoring during cardiac stress tests.
- Maintains accurate and comprehensive patient records, including medical history, assessment data, and procedural notes. (i.e. consent form, lab values, cytology, etc.)
- Identifies and documents unexpected adverse reactions or unusual occurrences during diagnostic imaging procedures and reports them to the appropriate healthcare professional(s).
- Orchestrates patient discharge.
- Participates in our MQSA Breast program, QA/CQI Interdisciplinary Activities, and Professional Practice Activities.
- Adheres to strict infection control protocols and safety guidelines, ensuring the cleanliness and sterility of the department.
- Follows radiation safety practices and protective measures to minimize exposure risks.
- Helps write patient care policies, design flowsheets or patient instruction sheets and develops protocols or care plans.
- Makes recommendations to the referring physician, the patient, and patient's family under the guidance of the interventional radiologist.
