The ED Supervisor is responsible for administration and operational activities of the Sylvania Medical Center Emergency Department and assigned areas. In collaboration with interdisciplinary team members, assures safe, efficient and cost-effective care to patients within the assigned areas. The ED Supervisor provides support for all campus operations and engages appropriate department heads when indicated. The ED supervisor serves as a clinical resource to direct care staff. Assumes responsibility and authority as delegated by the Director of Nursing/VP of Nursing/CNO. Assists in the provision of care to patients of all age groups.
Essential Job Functions
Coordinates available nursing staff in order to provide quality care; operates within established parameters with attention to patient acuity, unit activity and skill mix of personnel.
Facilitates the organization and management within established policies, procedures, standards of care and long-range objectives.
Demonstrates and maintains effective communication/collaboration skills with multidisciplinary health care team. Carries out administrative, operational functions delegated by market or site nursing leader.
Uses professional judgement, effective decision-making ability, and good customer relation skills in problem resolution.
Participates in in-service programs and other continuing education efforts to maintain effective management and supervision skills, as well as broad-based clinical nursing knowledge.
Accurately document any significant situations and forwards to appropriate department head; contacts on-call Administrator for timely/sensitive issues or handling of questionable situations.
Provides input to clinical manager regarding staff capabilities and growth areas and provides input as requested for performance appraisals on a timely basis.
Assists new patient care staff in becoming effective members of the health care team and provides input to their respective clinical manager regarding level of functioning.
Responsible for maintaining knowledge of compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations, as well as other accrediting bodies.
Adheres to the standards and policies of the Corporate Responsibility Program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and reporting to designated Manager (or employer hotline) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.
Embraces standards of behavior in order to provide and promote excellent customer service for both internal and external customers. Holds self and others accountable for behaviors that promote service excellence.
Licensing/Certification
Current Ohio RN Licensure required
BLS Certification required
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing required
Bachelor's degree in nursing, Business, or health-related field preferred
Work Experience
3 years of experience as a professional nurse with at least one year in an emergency department
Previous supervisory/management experience preferred
