The Banner Gateway Stem Cell Transplant Surgical Oncology Unit Is A Very Busy, 24-Bed Unit That Specializes In The Care Of Oncology Patients. Responsibilities Include: Caring For Patients From Diagnosis To Treatment Of Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy, And Radiation Treatment, Symptom Management, Palliative (Supportive) Care, Clinical Trials, And Care Of Some Stem Cell Patients. A High Percentage Of Our Patients Have A Diagnosis Of Leukemia, But We Care For Patients With All Types Of Cancer. We Are Affiliated With MD Anderson Cancer Center And Work Closely With Them To Ensure Our Patients Get The Best Cancer Care Possible. Many Of Our Patients Have Extended Stays To Complete Their Course Of Treatment. This Allows Us To Really Get To Know Each Patient And Their Family Members, Which Helps To Form A Therapeutic Relationship/Bond. Our Nurses Find This Aspect Of The Job Very Rewarding.
