Outpatient Oncology Rn

As an Outpatient Oncology RN, you will work closely with your providers (MD/APP) and team (RN navigator, scheduler, MA, intake coordinators, genetic counselors, and other team RNs) to coordinate your patient's oncology care and treatment. You will triage Cerner message pool for high priority patient care messages, enter orders (rx refills/referrals/imaging/labs etc), ensure all components of necessary medical records are available for patient visit prior to visit, respond to interdisciplinary team questions regarding patient treatment needs, authorization clarification, symptom management, work collaboratively with rooming teams, supportive care, and navigation to ensure best visit for patient. You may support a support a surgical oncologist and assist with clinic-appropriate procedures. You will have clinic two or three days/week (patients coming in to see the oncologist) and one or two days to prep for and close clinic (no patients coming to clinic these days. We are expanding access to care to our oncology patients: depending upon the team you join, in addition to working at North Campus, you may have a clinic day/week at one of our other clinical sites both in operation currently and/or new sites as we grow.

Location: Banner North Health Center - Oncology 3838 N Campbell Ave Building One Tucson AZ

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM - No nights, weekends, holidays or Call schedule

POSITION SUMMARY

This position utilizes clinical knowledge, judgement, and experience to guide patients and their families through the Oncology Screening and Early Detection enrollment and appointment process. This position maintains a level of clinical knowledge in discussing various screening parameters; including but not limited to benefits and harms of Cat Scan lung screening, typical work up of incidental findings; appropriate mammogram cadence and providing education and/or responding to questions appropriately. This position plays a key role in assessing patient data by organizing, tracking, documenting, and reporting out on patient outcomes.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Manages all aspects of Database Management within an oncology screening database including inputting patient screening information, data compilation, data entry, documentation, and clinical review of patient care.

2. Directs, evaluates and performs care coordination of patients in screening and early detection programs.

3. Performs data entry and documentation for tracking and statistics into excel and EMR systems.

4. Collaborates with the Oncology Screening Program Coordinator to ensure that patients and families are guided through the screening, enrollment, appointment process and responds to questions appropriately. This position maintains a level of knowledge to discuss various screening parameters; including but not limited to benefits and harms of CT lung screening, typical work up of incidental findings; appropriate mammogram cadence and provide education when needed.

5. Develops all clinical cases for multi-disciplinary tumor boards using clinical judgement, established processes and data gathering to present information for review and recommendations by the boards.

6. Provides updates on program activities, statistics, and recommendations for program enhancements to the program Director. May require presentation of program updates and data at meetings.

7. Communicates with referring offices and acts as a liaison between physician practices and hospital departments. Understands, facilitates, and communicates effectively with these entities as it relates to each patient.

8. Collaborates with marketing and outreach to promote program outreach when needed.

9. Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient. Interacts with other health care providers in numerous settings in order to report and ask for or clarify information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.

Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.

Relates throughout the interview process the experience, training and education needed to perform the job. Requires proficiency level typically achieved with 3 years of experience in the clinical area for which he or she is applying.

This is a remote opportunity, but you must live in the Phoenix area as the job involves some onsite training and occasional meetings in Phoenix.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree preferred. Professional certification preferred. Five years or more related experience preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
