Clinical Development Specialist - PACU - West Houston

SUMMARY
Assess clinical knowledge and skills for Post Anesthesia Care Unit and procedural staff. Collaborates with Perioperative/Procedural management to develop educational interventions to increase competency levels of staff incorporating Perioperative Guidelines, Institutional and Professional practice standards. Serves as an expert on PACU Perioperative & Procedural patient care issues. Coordinates and designs orientation pathways for newly hired staff, coaches and mentors staff.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Structural Empowerment Perioperative/Procedural Clinical Development Specialist develops staff to problem solve in order to meet organizational and unit clinical patient care expectations and goals to achieve desired outcomes.
Active participation with human resource activities for all student, clinical and clerical staff including recruitment, retention and productivity.
Participates in identifying, recruiting, developing and retaining top talent through effective communication, orientation, performance management, career counseling, and conflict resolution. Collaborates with management team to select appropriate coaches for new employees
Participates as active member in shared governance model at unit, center, and institutional level.
Active in developing strong relationships and partnerships within and across the organization to improve patient outcomes.
Practice with autonomy within the scope of professional nursing.
Coach and Develop Perioperative/Procedural Clinical Development Specialist has a comprehensive understanding of the role of professional nursing in the institution and motivates staff to perform at the highest level.
Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.
Trains, coaches, mentors all clinical staff by demonstrating clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.
Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and other services.
Collaborates with staff, physicians, other services, to plan patient care and evaluate outcomes.
Orientation of employees: Coordinates clinical orientation of PACU/Procedure employees, develops and assesses orientation competencies with employees.
Continuing Education /Nurse Planner Identifies potential CE offerings for employees; hosts and/or teaches classes, evaluates progress; serves as a unit resource to prepare simulation and training for new initiatives, equipment, and services as needed
Plan, Coordinate, and/or teach CPR, Mock Code, and emergency preparedness for the team
Develops, designs, implements, and coordinates inservice education for employees based on identified learning needs. Provide responsive just-in-time inservice education to meet learning needs identified on rounds. Ensures all documentation and attendance records of in-service education and all other trainings are maintained.
New Knowledge, Innovation and Improvements Perioperative/Procedural Clinical Development Specialist encourages and supports the integration of innovation and research-based findings into daily patient care practices.
Actively participates in, assists and/or leads unit, divisional and/or institutional improvement projects. Communicates information to appropriate individuals.
Promotes innovative solutions by encouraging innovation in others.
Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies.
Participates in /leads evidenced based practice projects.
Participates in the redesign of care delivery for unit/center patient population.
Trending departmental Quality metrics Assists leadership with reviewing trends on SI events and other unit/center metrics to assess where staff education is needed.
EDUCATION
Required:
Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
EXPERIENCE
Required:
Five years registered nursing experience.
Preferred:
Three years nursing experience in a perioperative setting to include experience with staff development, training, coaching, or formal clinical education experience. Interventional Radiology, Endoscopy, and/or Pulmonary procedural experience a plus.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION
Required:
All of the following:
Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Preferred:
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
Preferred: Any of the Following:
CAPA, CPAN
CCRN
OCN
CNOR
RN-BC in Pain Management
Certified in Staff Development
