JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Medical Assistant (31-9092) DEPARTMENT: Medical

Position Description:
The BFC employs Medical Assistants, or M.A., to provide assistance to the medical provider in the care and treatment of the patients. The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the medical providers in patient care, clerical needs, environmental and organizational tasking.
Position Qualifications:
- Education: High School diploma is required. Successful completion of a post High School training in vocational and other training school is required.
- Experience: At least 2 years family practice experience as a MA
- Licenses, Certifications: x-ray certification
- Specialized Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, medical terminology knowledge of safety and sanitation, computer skills and customer service skills
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with electronic health records data entry
Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Record patient history and personal information
- Measure vital signs, such as blood pressure
- Help physicians with patient examinations
- Schedule patient appointments
- Prepare blood samples for laboratory tests
- Enter patient information into medical records
- Medical assistants take and record patients’ personal information. They must be able to keep that information confidential and discuss it only with other medical personnel who are involved in treating the patient.
Other Duties:
- Help patients to move around the facility, by doing such tasks as pushing wheelchairs
- Clean equipment and facilities
- Change linens
- Maintain and stock supplies

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Physical demands are generally described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body). The Medical Assistant must be able to observe safe practice criteria in assisting patients. The Medical Assistant must be able to safely support the full weight of a patient when necessary.
- Medical assistants work in well-lighted, clean environments. They constantly interact with other people and may have to handle several responsibilities at once. Most full-time medical assistants work a regular 40-hour week. However, many medical assistants work part time, evenings, or weekends.
Supervisory:
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
